Today marks my 3rd week in Israel and it feel incredible, here's a quick catch up of events:
August 21st- Leave JFK for Brussels, Belgium
August 22nd- Brussels, Belgium for the day for a fabulous bike tour and some chocolate
August 23rd- 25th Tel Aviv, Tiberias Israel to visit Aunts and Uncles and Cousins
August 25th-29th Jerusalem, Israel for OTZMA orientation and tiyul (trip) around the Judean desert
August 30th- Present - Ashkelon (with a few stops in Tel Aviv in between)
For the next few months I will be living, volunteering and learning Hebrew in Ashkelon with 35 of my fellow Otzmaniks. We live in an absorption center for new olim (immigrants) that is a ten minute walk from a beautiful Mediterranean beach. After the holidays (a phrase I now know all too well) we'll begin our semi-permanent volunteer placements, most of us working with at risk youth communities.
More to come soon as the adventure unravels.
May this be a year of happiness, health, rejuvenation, inspiration, hope and spontaneity.
Shana Tova!
nikki!
ReplyDeleteso glad to see that you are blogging! i'm officially now 'following you'...publicly i might add. yup, i'm not ashamed to be living vicariously through you!
do i spy some white/green searsucker shorts that my have formally belonged to a ms. laura karabell? ha. hope you are enjoying the clothes...but more so, hope you are enjoying yourself.
you are such a great writer! very insightful but not pretentious, two of my favorite qualities in the far too many books I read written by witty and funny women writers, like you!
things are going really well here. i'm doing the dempsey challenge (you can read about it online if you want haha (www.dempseychallenge.org) and running the 10K! it's about 6.2 miles or so, so it's been good to have that goal in mind so i can keep running. yesterday I broke the 6 mile mark!
can't wait to hear more about your trip! maybe we could g-chat/do that thing with the video/talk thing some time so we can briefly catch up. i bet you're super busy but it would be fun to hear your voice!
stay well, my friend. and a belated shana tova to my favorite oldest friend.
con mucho carino,
